I’m not a huge romantic suspense fan these days. But there are 3 authors I make exceptions for. I 1-click these authors without questions: Scarlett Cole, Kaylea Cross ...and Pamela Clare. In fact, I tend to judge all romantic suspense against Pamela Clare’s books. And I’m pleased to report that Hard Asset delivered everything I’ve come to know and love about a Pamela Clare read.

I went into this one with a bit of trepidation. The word “player” in the title gave me visions of dirty manwhores, and I HATE dirty manwhores. But I’m so glad I didn’t let my manwhore prejudice get in the way of giving this book a chance, because not only was Luke, the hero, NOT a manwhore, he was a yummy cinnamon roll of the highest order. (And he was UNBEARABLY hot and sexy and a dirty talker, so...yeah, he was pretty much my book boyfriend catnip.)

This one was a re-read for me. I’ve read everything Celia Aaron has ever written, and I’ve never rated any of her books less than a 5, I don’t think. So, it should come as a surprise to absolutely no one when I say I loved this book.

Plot overview: Archaeology student Elise encounters mystery and intrigue on the property of Garrett Blackwood while investigating her father’s disappearance under the guise of an official dig. It’s a dark romantic suspense with a side of erotica, and sort of a loose interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.

And when I say “struggled” I mean that I’ve read some crap that has made me scratch my head and wonder how anyone could’ve even considered publishing it. But after reading this one, and its predecessor, You Complicate Me...well, I won’t say my faith in Kindle Unlimited is FULLY restored, because I’m a paranoid person and it’d take way more than 1 or 2 great books to do that, but I WILL say that I have no complaints about this author or this duet. In fact, I might even be doing a little happy dance.

If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you know I’m a Melanie Harlow fan. She’s been on more “best of” lists than I can count, is one of my all-time favorite “1 click wonder” authors, and I’ve 5-starred several books of hers recently, including Irresistible, Only Love, Only You, From This Moment, and If You Were Mine. Basically, if she writes it, 1-click it, read it, and mark it a 5-star read. Haven’t found an exception to that rule yet. So, no one should be surprised that I 5-starred this one.
