First of all, we’d like to point out that we didn’t make any references to hoses, melted panties, or going up in flames in our title for this list, and for that, we think we deserve HUGE credit. It would’ve been sooooo easy to do that, folks. But we digress…

There’s a reason why hot firefighter calendars sell by the truckloads. What can we say? We love these fearless, death-defying, hot, sweaty, muscle-y...um...we lost our train of thought. Where were we going with that?

Ah, yes...firefighters are real life superheroes, which makes them super sexy, in our humble opinion. So, without further ado, here are our picks for the top 9 fire-fighting heroes that we’d let pull us out of a burning building any time.

As I stated in the review for Ruckus, LJ Shen is a MASTER—an absolute MASTER—of writing characters I don’t want to like. (She’s also in the running for having quite possibly the hottest cover models who ever lived on her payroll, but I digress...) Much like Dean and Vicious, Trent is a jerk. A real a-hole. He’s demanding, he talks down to people, he’s domineering. But somehow, just like she made me fall for Dean and Vicious by, say, the 20% mark of the story, LJ Shen somehow manages to make me stop wanting to knee Trent in the groin. And by 50%, I find him damn near irresistible. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: How the heck do you DO that, LJ Shen???

These two authors are my kryptonite. I’m powerless against them. I see their names, I see the hot cover models (seriously, these 2 always have THE HOTTEST cover models), and I just 1-click. I don’t even think I look at the book blurbs anymore. Read samples? Pfffttt. Why would I do that? That’d just be wasting valuable 1-clicking time. And I’ve never been disappointed. So, I’m sure it comes as no surprise to any of you that for me, this was a 5-star read. Again. (Can these ladies do no wrong???)

So, I came REALLY close to DNFing this one, folks. But I hate to DNF, especially when I get the book from NetGalley, so inexplicably, I persevered and made it through to the very end. I wish I could say things got better as I got to the end. They didn’t.

There were a number of points early on in the story where I started to question Shanna’s intelligence. And if there’s one thing that pisses me off in romantic suspense, it’s a TSTL heroine. For example, here are my questions for Shanna:

This is a tough book to rate, folks. It has a ton of GREAT stuff going for it. So, I suppose I’ll just start there. Here’s what I loved:

I love that this is a multicultural romance, and a romance with a disabled hero, and neither the fact that it’s a multicultural romance or the fact that the hero’s disabled is a conflict in the story. That was refreshing.
This is a well-written story. The descriptions of New Orleans were so vivid I felt like I was there, sitting on a balcony, eating a beignet while watching these characters romp through the city.

Whenever there’s a new Sawyer Bennett release, I jump up and down and make grabby hands until it’s delivered to my Kindle. True story. I don’t read descriptions, I don’t really look at the covers, I don’t check out other reviews. I happily download and have never once regretted it. So, I doubt that you’ll be surprised to find out that I loved her latest release, Lucas.

First of all, let me just say how refreshing it is to read a romance where the man is not a commitment phobe. Sure, he’s a hot, wealthy professional hockey player, so he’s had lots of casual sex in the past, and he didn’t really see any need to settle down.

But nooooooooo. I wandered into the romance wilderness on my own, as lost as a Kardashian at a neighborhood garage sale.

I almost didn’t read this book. At some point many, many years ago, I had the stomach flu and ended up stuck on my couch with no remote. As a result, I was stuck watching The Horse Whisperer on TV. I HATED the movie. I mean, really, REALLY hated it. So when I saw the first line of the blurb, the words “horse whisperer” jumped off the page and smacked me in the face, bringing to mind images of puking while helplessly watching Kristin Scott Thomas cheat on her husband with a crusty old cowboy while a broken child and a broken horse looked on.

I was only about 10% into the book when I realized there would be no sleep until I finished it. It grabbed me right by the feels and refused to let go until the very end.

There’s some good stuff here, and some stuff that irks the bejesus out of me. So, let’s start with the good, shall we?

Here we go:

It’s well-written. No annoying bursts of dialogue that don’t feel authentic. No silly typos and grammatical errors to pull me out of the story. The pacing is nice. There’s lots of sexual tension, which is a huge plus in any romance novel.
