 I knew there were Christmas romances. I knew there were Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day romances. But Thanksgiving? That’s a new one for me. But I stumbled across these—and they look pretty good, if I’m being honest—while doing a little Amazon shopping. Thought they should be shared. Because let’s face it, if your annual Thanksgiving gatherings are anything like mine, reading a saucy romance while nestled away in a comfy chair—hopefully in a quiet, out-of-the-way corner—is absolutely priceless. This is not a new topic for us—hence the word “more” in the headline. We’ve talked about heroes, heroines, and villains we never want to see again. We’ve talked about tropes we hate. We’ve even talked about the lack of diversity in the genre and secondary characters we hate. But the more we read (and we read A LOT), the more stuff we find that we never want to see again. (There’s a lot of great stuff, too, so please don’t message me and tell me how negative I am. We can talk about the great stuff another time, but that’s not what THIS post is about, m’kay?) That said, here’s the new stuff we’ve found to hate lately, so strap yourself in because this could get ugly.
 You know the days when self-published authors were looked down on and it was assumed that they were all talentless hacks who couldn’t get published traditionally? Well, those days are LONG gone, because it’s a well-known fact that many self-published authors are more than talented enough to be traditionally published, but choose not to because they’re savvy business people. (I mean, why let a publisher take over half your royalties when you can publish yourself and keep most of your money?) So, that said, here are the top self-published authors you should be reading. Enjoy!
I’m not one to say, “If you love X author, you’ll also love X author.” I mean, we’re all different, and authors are all different, so it’s really hard to say who is going to like what and why. But sometimes when you run through every book your favorite author has ever written and you’re months away from a new release from them, you just need some recommendations—maybe a little guidance on what to do with your reading life when you’ve exhausted your supply of a particular author’s books. In this list, we’re focusing on what to do with your life when you’ve run out of Kristen Ashley books.
 First of all, I’m going to address the Goodreads list of “best” romances of 2019. Frankly, it’s a crock of crap. Are there some great books on there? Sure. Are they all actually romance novels? Nope. Are indie authors woefully unrepresented? Yep. And I guess we’re just supposed to assume there were no good historicals released in all of 2019? Sorry, no. Not buying it. Given the number of traditionally published, highly hyped, super expensive books on that list, I’m betting their list was largely publisher bought-and-paid-for. (Just my opinion. I have no proof of that. But it’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it. So there.)
That said, we’ve put together THIS list of our favorite 2019 romances, and the favorites of our readers. (Actual readers, which I’m not sure if there were any of THOSE consulted for the Goodreads list. Just sayin’). Happy reading, y’all!
