I love a good friends-to-lovers story, folks, and this was one of the best ones I’ve read in a long time.

I really loved that Marina and Laz were both kind of weird and quirky. I mean, you see the weird, clumsy girl getting the cool, sexy, normal guy all the time (it dates all the way back to the 80s when Samantha landed Jake in Sixteen Candles—but in this case, Laz came with plenty of quirks of his own, and Marina loved him all the more for his...uniqueness.

When I first discovered romance novels, all I read were historicals, because that was all my stepmom read…and I had to get them from somewhere. Parochial schools aren’t known for their extensive romance sections, but I digress. I loved historical romances…but then I discovered the paranormal and contemporary romance genres, and I didn’t look back. For years.

I should have liked this story, folks. Kick ass cover? Check. Good blurb? Check. Beauty and the Beast retelling? Double check! I LOVE fairy tale retellings. But sadly, this one didn’t just fall flat for me. It sort of face-planted in a pile of dog crap. (If you want to get all visual about it)

Now, I understand that plot isn’t always the main feature of romantic erotica, so I had low expectations going into this story. But the plot wasn’t just thin, it was practically nonexistent!
