As an author of scorching-hot romance, in your opinion, what are some of the biggest misconceptions about the romance genre as a whole?
“All of the plots are the same.” When I hear this criticism of romance, it drives me crazy. Romance novels are filled with so many different, high-intensity, adrenaline-churning plots. They are full of twists and turns. They are full of excitement. Mystery. Love. They are NOT the same. One size does definitely not fit all in the land of romance.
Becoming a NYT and USA Today bestseller is no easy accomplishment. What advice do you have for all the authors and aspiring writers out there who hope to someday achieve your level of success?
Don’t give up!! Keep writing your books—write and read, then write and read some more. Never give up on your dream. I’ve found that some people expect instant success. They write a book and then believe it will immediately sell 50,000 copies. Don’t create expectations that are too high. Focus on your craft. Build yourself. Write the stories that call to you…and again, don’t give up. Not ever! The zombie apocalypse has hit (as we all knew it would one day). Which TV or movie characters do you want as part of your crew? (no superheroes…that’s cheating) Does Dean Winchester count as a superhero? Because I would love to have him on my side. I’d like Dean, his brother Sam could certainly come along for the ride, and then Castle…for his humor, his brains, and his overall sexiness. I think you need some sexy when you are facing the end of the world.
