Monster fantasy romance

I've been reading a lot of monster romance lately. I mean, a lot. With human men being what they are right now (*gestures all around wildly*), it's just easier for me to believe in happily ever afters between human women and giant monsters who want nothing more than to make them happy, you know? And in that capacity, Monster Mate was a HUGE win. But it also had plenty of other great stuff going for it:
First of all, there are a few things that are standard in any Isabel Jordan novel:
1. Snarky, witty banter
2. Quirky, strong heroines
3. Heroes who are sweet as cinnamon rolls, but never meek. They'll gladly destroy anyone who dares disrespect their love. (Big "touch her and die" vibes)
4. Just the right amount of spicy times
5. Tight writing. She doesn't write 700 pages romances. Her books are tightly written and fast paced. No lagging middle or unnecessary word count.

So, all of that stuff is present in Monster Mate. But I think what I love most about this book is Riordan, the hero. He's a 7' tall, horned demon from a hell dimension, and he could've gotten all alpha and tried to strongarm Roxie, the heroine, into complying when he realized she was his fated mate. But he totally respected the fact that she needed time. He never demanded anything of her. He was nothing but respectful and considerate, and I DIG that about him. Now that I think about it...I guess that's another common characteristic of Isabel Jordan's novels. Clear consent and respect between characters.

On a spicy note...the spicy times in this one were a little spicier than usual. I'm not mad about it. :0 And this isn't a spoiler, but he admits that he studied romance novels to learn how to please her in the bedroom. Ahem. I can't even express how much I love that.

Anyhoo, this is a great read that can be read as part of the Sanity Falls series, or as a standalone. Although, I do also highly recommend book 1, Monster Match (and let me tell you: the audio version? *chef's kiss*).

So, go download, m'kay? You can thank me later.
