Robyn Peterman interview

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Robyn Peterman writes because the people inside her head won’t leave her alone until she gives them life on paper. She writes snarky, sexy, funny paranormal and snarky, sexy, funny contemporaries.

Her addictions include laughing really hard with friends, shoes (the expensive kind), Target, Coke Zero Cherry with extra ice in a styrofoam cup, bejeweled reading glasses, her kids, her super-hot hubby and collecting stray animals.

A former professional actress, with Broadway, film and T.V. credits, she now lives in the south with her family and too many animals to count. Writing gives her peace and makes her whole, plus having a job where she can work in her underpants works really well for her.

Given your background in acting, what made you decide to start writing?
I have always written. When I was still acting I used to punch up scripts (write jokes) for TV and film. As an actress, what drove me was becoming different people. As I writer I feel the same. I adore creating characters and then throwing them into situations. I write very dialogue heavy and that is probably because I was an actor for so long.

Your books are SO funny. (Seriously, like laugh-until-you-pee-your-pants funny) Who in your life would you say was the biggest influence on your sense of humor?

First of all, thank you. It delights me to make people pee…I can’t pick an influence because I have so many. I find all of life’s ironies funny and I probably see the world through my own warped vision. I also think there is no humor without pathos.

There is situational humor and then there is character humor. However, nothing is funny unless there is some truth to it. So while I might write heightened (or some would say ridiculous) characters, there is always underlying and very real emotion in each one.
 
Becoming a NYT and USA Today bestseller is no easy accomplishment. What advice do you have for all the authors and aspiring writers out there who hope to someday achieve your level success?
Write a good book and then write another good book and then write another good book…

What is the best line from a book, TV show or movie that you wish you wrote?
“It goes to eleven.” –This is Spinal Tap

Too many to name, but her are a few…Darynda Jones, Thea Harrison, LM Montgomery, Judy Blume, Madeline L’Engle, David Sedaris, Jeaniene Frost and so many more!!
