ere at Romance Rehab, we’re BIG Game of Thrones fans. So, in honor of the upcoming last episode EVER of Game of Thrones (pardon us while we quietly sob for a moment), we wanted to take the opportunity to combine our love of Game of Thrones with our love of romance novels and make some fabulous book recommendations to all you fine folks. You’re welcome. So, without further ado, here are some romances you’ll LOVE based on your favorite Game of Thrones characters. (Note: Yes, we realize some of our recs are urban fantasy, not really romance. But they all have a strong romantic element, so we stand by our picks. We also recognize that some of these are repeats from our Avengers list. Don’t care. They still apply. We also realize that not every Game of Thrones character is represented here. That’s because there are like a billion characters on that show and there’d be nowhere to ever stop. So please don’t write and say that you’re upset with us because we didn’t include Hodor recommendations. And, it’s our list and no one is the boss of us, so there’s that. Let’s not get judgy and just have fun with this, m’kay?) Arya StarkArya Stark is arguably the biggest badass on the show. (And there are A LOT of real badasses on the show, so to shine in that crowd is truly an accomplishment.) She slayed The Night King, for God’s sake. So, if highly trained badass assassins like Arya are your jam, you’ll adore these lovely lethal ladies:
And, while she’s not an assassin, if tough survivors who are hell-bent on vengeance (like Arya) are your jam, you’ll want to check out Sugar Daddy by Sawyer Bennett. Need more? Try these ultimate badass heroines.
Sansa StarkLove her or hate her, you have to admit that Sansa is a survivor. She’s been to hell and back, and she’s become stronger for it. If heroines with great inner strength (like Sansa) who have overcome adversity and/or abuse are your favorites, you won’t want to miss these...
Daenerys TargaryenThis one is tough to narrow down, because Dany is so, so many things. She’s the ultimate badass. She’s overcome tremendous adversity and has just as much inner strength as Sansa. She also commands an army, and is a queen. So, where do you start with Ms. Targaryen?
Well, when in doubt, start with the dragons. She’s the mother of dragons. So, if you like women who can control the dragons in their lives, you won’t want to miss reads: And if women who rule are your thing, you won’t want to miss Royally Yours by Emma Chase
Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen)Jon Snow is honorable and a great warrior and a genuinely decent guy. But can we all just admit that those qualities aren’t what make him really sexy? What makes him really sexy is that he’s broody, angsty, and a little scarred and damaged. So, if you like your men a little scarred and damaged and angsty (no judgement, by the way), you’ll LOVE:
And let’s not forget that when the show started, Jon was a virgin. So, if you like virgin heroes, you’ll want to check these out.
And because he’s such a nice guy and would most likely make the best boyfriend in real life from this show, you’ll want to check out this list. Still need more? We got you covered. Tyrion LannisterTyrion, like Daenerys, is many different things. He’s incredibly intelligent, snarky as hell, and a brave dude who has managed to survive some major battles when the odds were against him. So, where do you start with a guy like Tyrion?
Well...let’s admit that when the show started, he was a bit of a manwhore. He’s not that way anymore. So, if reformed manwhores are your kind of romance hero, then you’ll adore: And if you like men who, like Tyrion, can delivery snarky one-liners like its their damn job, you NEED to check these heroes out:
Jamie LannisterOK, I think we can all admit that Jaime Lannister DID NOT start out in this show as a good guy. He did some truly awful things. (Not the least of which was having sex with his sister and pushing Bran out a window...but I digress…) But over the seasons, he’s been dealt a few crushing blows that humbled him and made him see the error of his ways. He tried his best to redeem himself and become the kind of man Brienne of Tarth could respect. (And I have totally shipped those two since they traveled together to King's Landing with him as her prisoner. I’m not even sorry. #Braime forever!) But if anti-heroes like Jaime are your kryptonite, then you’ll want to download these guys posthaste:
The HoundHere’s another guy who, like Jaime Lannister, has done some terrible things in his life. But he’s worked hard to redeem himself, too. And if Game of Thrones was a romance, he’d be well on his way to a HEA with Sansa by now. (I still think her not going with him when he offered to protect her and take her out of King’s Landing was the biggest mistake that girl ever made. But I digress…) So, if you’re like me and love a good Beauty and the Beast retelling (which is exactly what The Hound’s love story with Sansa would be if I had my way), you won’t want to miss these:
GhostNo, I’m not going to recommend romances featuring beastiality. Minds out of the gutter, folks! But because Ghost is and has always been one of my favorite characters (I about had a heart attack when he charged into battle with the Dothraki and didn’t come back right away. But I digress…) I couldn’t leave him off the list. So, how about some hot wolf shifter romances in honor of the good boy direwolf?
What do y’all think? Did we leave out your favorite? Let us know! We’d love to discuss.
