You know that part towards the end of a lot of romance novels where the couple breaks up, everything is bleak, and it looks like they'll never find their way back to each other? Well, that's called the 3rd act breakup, and as it turns out, a lot of readers hate it. Personally, if done well, I think a 3rd act breakup can be super emotional and make for great reading. But that doesn't mean I don't also appreciate the hell out of books that manage to have no 3rd act breakup.
