I had just finished reading a really crappy book that shall remain nameless when I picked up Southern Storms. I knew I’d love it. I mean, I’ve read everything Brittainy Cherry has ever written and I’ve loved every word. So, to say I had high expectations for this book would be an understatement. I was relying on this book to snap me out of my book slump, and it did it’s job like a damn pro. I’m proud to say that my book slump has officially been demolished. Thanks so much, Brittainy Cherry!
First of all, this is a character driven book. I ADORE character driven books. But if you’re looking for lots of complex plot and world building, you might want to look elsewhere. This is the story of two broken souls finding their way to each other and helping each other mend. It’s gorgeous and gut-wrenching and everything you could ever want in a romance. Kennedy is a great heroine. She’s suffered and she’s damaged, but she keeps going. She’s a kind, giving, free-spirit who deserved so much better than her crappy husband. And boy-oh-boy did she get the better guy… Jax. Sigh. He’s one of my favorite heroes EVER, not just in a Brittainy Cherry book. He’s a grumpy loner, but he’s also a sweet, sensitive soul once you get to know him. He’s a little socially awkward, which is all kinds of adorable. And this might sound weird, but I LOVE that he’s a plumber. He’s not a billionaire or a mafia guy or a biker...he’s a plumber. An ordinary guy with an ordinary job. You just don’t see enough of that in Romancelandia. I also loved that once Kennedy and Jax were together, they were TOGETHER. There weren’t really any dark moments where they pushed each other away and treated each other like crap. And when one of them was down and started acting like they might push the other away, it was shut down quickly. They were perfectly balanced as a couple. I’m not usually a fan of epilogues, but the epilogue in this book was probably the most satisfying I’ve ever read. After everything these two characters went through, they deserved that happy ending more than anyone. All in all, if you love emotional, angsty, character driven, slow burn romance, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better read than Southern Storms. In other words, go 1-click today! What are you waiting for??? Does this book contribute to or help crush the romance stigma? Brittainy Cherry: consistently crushing the romance stigma since 2013.
