The ultimate rock star romance list (for now, at least)

The ultimate rock star romance list (for now, at least)
So, a while back, we did an ultimate biker romance reading list, and we said it was a “for now” list, because every time we do lists like this, people write in and tell us all the great books we forgot to include. That leads us to read more books and realize that, darn it, those people were RIGHT and we SHOULD have included those books! Well, that’s exactly what we’re doing with this rock star list. Sure, we’ve talked about rock stars before, but we’ve read a lot of books since then, and the list has grown. So, without further ado, here is the ultimate rock star reading list (for now...until y’all tell me everything I missed).

(And please keep in mind, we’re including 1 book per author. Yes, we know that some authors have more than 1 fabulous rock star read, but if we listed multiple books per author, it wouldn’t be fair to all the OTHER authors. Plus, it’s our list and no one is the boss of us, so we’re including our favorites. *Drops the mic*)

L.J. Shen should be ashamed of herself for writing “Midnight Blue”. It’s trash, and you Romance Rehab, bought it hook line and sinker. But of course, you bought it because L.J. Shen is a brilliant author. Being that she is so good at what she does, she should have chosen a better storyline, or simply chosen a better way to tell the story. I wish she had because I wanted to like this book.
Let me tell you why I think this book is trash:
1. He sexually harassed an employee!!!!!!! That is never okay. Never.
2. He’s a grown ass man. He knows the difference between right and wrong. He sure as hell knew it while he’d been abused. This asshole of a "hero" had a choice. To be a dick or not be a dick. He chose to be a dick.
3. If he had that much resent and bitterness in his heart then he should have beat on a real punching bag, or better yet, see a fucking therapist to get past the things that had happened to him. It's called taking responsibility for his own shit. He’s an intelligent human being with emotions and (maybe) a conscious. Making a vulnerable person pay for the past abuse others did to him is a poor excuse for a romantic storyline. Hell, it’s become a trope! Authors everywhere, STOP IT!!!
Also, I’ll state again. He took out his anger and resentment on an employee. That was wrong!
4. The female character was an idiot to have stayed. She should have recorded his abuse and sued his ass. Money problem solved. And he deserved it!
You have heard of a little thing called the "Me too" movement, right? If not, look it up and read the statements of women that had to endure bullshit he was peddling. That stuff doesn’t bring on understanding and love, that brings on low self-esteem and self-loathing in the victim.
5. Finally, young women read this crap and believe it.
These kinds of books have fourteen-year-old girls believe things like; “He’s in pain. My love will heal him.” Show naïve doe eyes. “If I love him enough everything will be okay.” “He’s super hot, so I can take his abuse.” A smoking hot body and a pretty face is no excuse for abuse. Forget about the oxytocin and endorphins, because this kind of man is a dose of “get my own” between the sheets.

I will happily admit to buying this book hook line and sinker. I fully understand that not everyone will like the same books I like, and I'm fine with that. I'm a firm believer in "Imma read what I want", and I don't apologize for that. I think Midnight Blue is the story of an incredibly complicated relationship between an idealistic young woman and a damaged, nearly broken man who did manage to redeem himself by the end of the story. Did he do horrible things? Yep. Humans sometimes do terrible things, especially when they're in pain and afraid and in this case, suffering from crippling addictions. But that didn't make him unworthy of love and redemption. From where I stand, LJ Shen has NOTHING to be ashamed of and neither do a vast majority of her loyal fans who adored this book as much as I did. One person's "trash", as you say, is another's treasure, and to me, everything Ms. Shen writes is treasure. That's the beauty of books. Everyone sees something different in what they read and that's to be celebrated. No one should be mocked or ridiculed for what they enjoy. So, I appreciate and respect your opinion even though you clearly don't plan to offer me that same courtesy. That's OK. It's all good. And as for the #MeToo movement, yes, I know what it is. I lived it back before it was hashtag, so I don't need to "look it up." Thanks, though!

Please don't judge Forever My Girl by the movie.

Do you have a book to movie list?
