I did it, y’all. I found a unicorn. This is a paranormal romance series from a new-to-me-author, and I loved it!

Here’s all the stuff I loved about this one:
  1. The heroine, Merle, is strong and determined, but not bitchy. So, so many paranormal romance heroines confuse strength with bitchiness, and I’m OVER it. Merle wasn’t at all bitchy.
  2. Rhun, the hero, has a deliciously snarky side that I adored. And while he’s not exactly what you’d call a “good guy”, he’s not a bad guy, either. I’m a big fan of anti-heroes and Rhun fit the bill nicely.
  3. The female friendships were portrayed very well. Even when it appeared that her friend might have sold her out, Merle never lost faith, and I found that downright inspiring. We could all use a friend like that.
  4. The world building was very interesting without being so intricate that I got confused/overwhelmed/bored with all the detail. In other words, the amount of detail provided as background was just right.
  5. Sexy times were VERY sexy, and the action scenes read like my favorite action movies. Gotta love that.
  6. Side characters all served a purpose. None of them were only there for obvious sequel bait.

In the name of full disclosure, I will say that this is a case of instalust. Not instalove, mind you. I know how y’all feel about instalove. But Rhun and Merle do share an immediate, intense physical attraction that I’d describe as instalust. It didn’t bother me at all, but readers who are super sensitive to all things “insta” might not enjoy this one. (It’d be their loss, though)

I could go on about how much I loved the book...but I have to hurry and download the rest of the series.

Full disclosure: We received an ARC from the author, free of charge.

Does this book contribute to or help crush the romance stigma?
It’s stigma free. No rehab needed!

Other reading suggestions
I wasn’t kidding about downloading the full series. You should consider it, too.

Just admit it. You need more primo paranormal romance...
