Top 15 sexy anti-heroes in romance that you’ll LOVE to hate

I don’t know about you, but I’ve often found myself rooting for the bad guy in a story. I often find them WAY more interesting than the good guys. Crowley on Supernatural did horrific things and I still adored him. I was sad when Jessica Jones offed Kilgrave at the end of season 1 because I was REALLY hoping he’d be back for season 2. And I think Captain America is as boring as a beige wall, but The Winter Soldier? I’m ALL IN. That’s probably why I often find anti-heroes in romance to be even sexier than their nice-guy counterparts. We’re talking about guys who’ve done and said horrible things (things I’d NEVER be OK with in real life), and I still find myself wrapped up in their story and wishing for them to find their happily ever after. It’s a sickness, I know. But if loving the guys on today’s list is wrong, I don’t even want to be right…

I don’t usually read paranormal books about the Fey. In my experience, they tend to be overly complicated, with tons of different species and courts and such. As you all know, I’m a lazy reader and I just don’t have the energy to sort all that complicated crap out. But this book had a great blurb and a cute cover, so I thought, what the hell? I’ll give it a read. And overall, I’m glad I did.

The world-building in this book was intricate and well-thought-out. But yet, it wasn’t so intricate that I had trouble following the story. That’s not an easy accomplishment for an urban fantasy author, so I give the author mad props for that.

Look, I’m not unsympathetic to authors. I’m really not. I know what a hard job it is to birth a book, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for authors. So, even when I’m tearing a book down, please know that I still give all you authors out there mad props for having the pluck to sit down and write an entire book from beginning to end, and then go through the huge hassle of publishing it and delivering it to a world full of people like me who might say bad things about your precious book baby. I applaud you all.

5 Years Later, despite having a great blurb and having been written by an author I’ve read and enjoyed in the past, didn’t work for me AT ALL. It’s basically the story of an alphahole jerkwad who disappears from a woman’s life just long enough for her to get her crap together, then comes back to wreck everything for her, over and over again. Rinse and repeat. I could end the review there, but let me elaborate on all the stuff I hated about the book:

Top 6 things I REFUSE to tolerate in romance novels

I used to be an incredibly open-minded reader. I’d read just about anything and not much bothered me. But as I’ve gotten older, I’m finding that I have way more “line in the sand” moments while reading now than I ever had in the past. And by “line in the sand”, I mean stuff that I just will not tolerate. There are a few things that’ll make me DNF a book so fast your head will spin. First of all, I owe the author and NetGalley an apology on this one. Somehow I failed to do a release day review. But hopefully what I have to say about the book will make up for my forgetful empty-headedness…

Second of all, this is one of those books that goes down a potentially bumpy road. There’s some stuff here that should have irked me, and in the hands of a lesser author, might have irked me. But because it was well written, with adorable characters and plenty of funny, sexy, emotional and heart-warming scenes, I ended up really enjoying it.

What’s the first thing you do when you notice the milk smells funny? You shove it under someone else’s nose and ask them if they think it stinks, too, right? It’s human nature. We all do it. So, when one of my Facebook friends said she wanted my opinion on this book because she’d been in the unpopular opinion crew when she didn’t like it, I dove right in. She asked me to smell the milk, and boy did I ever get a nose full of thick, chunky, WAY past it’s date milk. Blech.
