I mean, who DOESN'T love an intrepid, insightful, go-getter romance heroine? All of the heroines on today's list definitely meet that criteria. But don't take my word for it. Check 'em out:
ALL the heroines in the I-Team series
Why you'll love them: I'll admit that, sometimes, journalist heroines can get on my nerves. Sometimes, they run head-long into danger without a second thought just to get the story, and that complete lack of regard for their own safety annoys me. But in the case of the I-Team series, these women aren't just after "a story". They're working to make big changes in the world--to bring down BIG bad guys. So, the fact that they often put their own welfare on the back burner while they do their jobs isn't as troubling to me as it would be if they were just concerned about getting ahead at the office or getting a byline. And no matter how dangerous things get for this crew, they NEVER veer into TSTL territory, which makes them awesome, relatable heroines that readers can really get behind. I didn't pick just one heroine out of this group because they're ALL pretty fantastic. In other words: read the series. You won't regret it.
Megan: Finding Home
Why you'll love her: Megan is a copy editor looking to make the jump into reporting, and she begins interviewing homeless teen prostitutes for her story. There, she meets Sean, and forms a relationship with him. She quickly begins to care about him enough that she invites him into her home. Now, I will admit that this is NOT an easy read. And early on, I was thinking why on earth would a young woman make a decision like this? She could get killed, robbed, raped...anything! But the connection between Sean and Megan overrides my concerns. It's beautifully done. And sure, Megan wants her story, but more than anything, she wants to help Sean. She's a giving, caring soul, and I loved her for it. If you need more info, you can find my full review here.
Aaliyah: Eastern Lights
Why you'll love her: Now, Aaliyah isn't trying to save the world with her writing. She's more on the entertainment track, and there's nothing wrong with that. What really impressed me about Aaliyah, though, is that she has A LOT going on in her life, and none of it stops her from doing her job to the very best of her ability. She gets shit done, and I totally appreciated that about her. (Off topic: Cole is one of the best heroes I've EVER read about. Here's my full review for more info. But seriously, the book is worth reading for him alone. It's also a great story with a great heroine, so there's that, too...but COLE!!!)
Lexie: Cold Sight
Why you'll love her: Lexie is a small town reporter who takes it upon herself to investigate a pattern of deaths, and doesn't give up, even though no one believes her. Not only is she right, but she sets into motion events that save lives. AND she gets the hot guy while doing it. Lexie is an inspiration to us all. :)
Sabrina: The Outpost
Why you'll love her: Her work is so good that it takes down a huge crime family. Of course, they come after her and try to kill her for it...but still. Job well done, Sabrina! Good thing there's a hot mountain man ready and willing to protect her at all costs...
Bianca: Mister Moneybags
Why you'll love her: You just really can't go wrong with a Vi Keeland/Penelope Ward heroine. They're spunky, smart, and can always hold their own in a banter battle. Bianca is no different.
Annie: The Hooker and the Hermit
Why you'll love her: OK, so this one is a bit of a cheat. Annie is more of a social media expert/blogger than a reporter. But, it's my list and no one is the boss of me, and I loved Annie, so...here she is. Annie is shy and introverted, but has a big online personality, which I found super relatable. She's also whip-smart, and makes the tough athlete hero fall ass-over-elbow in love with her with very little effort on her part--and who doesn't love it when that happens?
Hollyn: Yes & I Love You
Why you'll love her: This one's kind of cheating, too. Hollyn is an entertainment blogger, but she REPORTS on entertainment to her followers, so I'm including her. (Plus there's that whole "no one is the boss of me and my lists" thing, too) I loved everything about Hollyn. She's the first heroine with Tourette's syndrome that I've ever read about, and finding something new in Romancelandia is always a treat. (Note: I'm not saying this is the only heroine EVER with Tourette's. I'm just saying she's the first I've found.) Plus, she's amazing at her job, incredibly smart, and this book has some of the best banter I've read in a LONG time. Need more info? Here's my full review.
