On Monday, I mentioned which flipped tropes I'd like to see more of in 2021. And by "flipped tropes", I mean standard romance novel tropes, but reversed. So, for example, age gap romance where the heroine is older than the hero--and grumpy/sunshine romance where the heroine is the grumpy one. So today, I figured I'd give credit where credit is due and mention some of my all-time favorite flipped-trope romances. Happy reading:
My favorite 3 rock stars who aren't manwhores
These are decent, loyal men who don't have drunken, slutty exploits without random groupies on the page. Having to read about heroes using groupies and generally treating women like crap until they meet the heroine is one of the reasons I considered giving up on rock star romance long ago. But these heroes prove that not all rock stars in Romancelandia are syphilis-ridden manwhores.
And you can find more nice-guy rock stars HERE.
Female billionaires!
If you thought that the billionaire romance category was full of nothing but alpha males...well, you're not right, but you're sadly mostly right. The Bluewater Billionaires series is the only one I've seen where the billionaires are women. And let me tell you--the series is FABULOUS. Here's my favorite book in the series:
For more info, you can check out my 5-star review of The Mogul and the Muscle HERE. And, I also put together a list of reasons why this series ROCKS that can be found right HERE. Happy reading!
The heroine is physically stronger than the hero!
I've only found two books in this category, y'all. Even in all the other kickass heroine books out there, it's still arguable whether or not the hero or heroine would win a fight. I mean, YES Kate Daniels is a total badass. But so's Curran, so...yeah. It's arguable who would win in that battle. But in THESE books, the heroine would be the CLEAR winner, and I totally dig that!
(Additionally, it should be noted that Caped and Dangerous fits FOUR of my flipped trope categories: stronger heroine, grumpy heroine, reverse age gap, and rom com that's actually hilarious. )
You can check out my 5-star review for Caped and Dangerous HERE, and my 5-star review of Air of Darkness HERE.
Older heroine/younger hero romance!
There are older hero/younger heroine romances ALL over Romancelandia. But reverse age gap? Those are trickier to find. Here are my top 4:
For more reverse age-gap awesomeness, you'll want to check out THIS list.
Wealthy heroes who aren't domineering alpha jerkwads
They do exist. I promise you. Here are my top 3:
But those are just MY top 3 picks. You can find others right HERE.
Grumpy heroines!
Don't get me wrong. I love grumpy heroes. But I want women to be able to express their grumpiness more often in romance novels. Here are my top 3 grumpy heroines:
You can check out even more grumpy heroinesHERE.
Rom com that's truly HILARIOUS
I'm mad at whoever told authors that all low-angst romance could be marketed as rom com. That is SO not the case. I want HILARIOUS rom coms that make me snort-laugh! Here are some recommendations:
For laugh-out-loud paranormal rom com, check THESE out. For great rom com in Kindle Unlimited, you won't want to miss THESE. There were a few other flipped tropes readers expressed interest in on Monday, so I thought I'd also mention:
MATURE ROMANCE: romance where the heroes and heroines aren't 22 years old and perky. You can find some recommendations for those HERE.
MALE ESCORTS: yep, there are lots of GREAT male escort reads right HERE. VIRGIN HEROES: I'm actually a little bummed I didn't think to put this one on my own wish list for 2021. But HERE are some great virgin hero recommendations. POLITICAL ROMANCE: I'm sure authors are shying away from this one lately, but for those who expressed interested, HERE are some great political romances. SURPRISE BABY: Not my favorite trope, but HERE are some good ones. But what about you? Anything you'd like to add? Let's discuss in the comments!

Currently reading Cara Bastone's Flirting with Forever which has reverse age gap (six years or so difference), I actually don't like this trope at all but she manages to pull it off and I am enjoying the book immensely. For fans of slow-burn romance (which I am).
